Description

The County of Ventura is seeking immediate support for COVID-19 Crisis Response by hiring Per Diem Licensed Vocational Nurses to help with administering vaccinations. Must be willing to work various shifts including weekends and/or nights and must be comfortable working in proper personal protective equipment in an environment of potential COVID exposure.

CERTIFICATION PAY: Incumbents in this classification are eligible for certification pay at a rate of $0.813 per hour based on his or her scheduled work week hours and not to exceed the scheduled work week hours for each qualified certification possessed up to a maximum of three (3) certifications.

EDUCATIONAL INCENTIVE: Some positions may be eligible for educational incentive. This incentive may be $1.25/hr or $1.75/hr for incumbents in eligible positions based on completion of a Bachelor's, or Master's degree not required by the classification.

BILINGUAL INCENTIVE: Some positions may be eligible for bilingual incentive depending on the applicable memorandum of agreement and the needs of the department. In order to qualify for this incentive, incumbents in eligible positions must take and pass the applicable bilingual fluency examination with a score of seventy percent (70%) or higher.

AGENCY/DEPARTMENT: Health Care Agency

Per Diem Licensed Vocational Nurse are represented by the California Nurses' Association (CNA) and are eligible for overtime compensation.

The eligible list established from this recruitment may be used to fill current Per Diem vacancies for the Health Care Agency. There are currently several anticipated vacancies.

TENTATIVE SCHEDULE

OPENING DATE: January 5, 2021

CLOSING DATE: Continuous and may close at any time; therefore, the schedule for the remainder of the process will depend upon when we receive a sufficient number of qualified applications to meet business needs.

Examples Of Duties

Duties may include but are not limited to the following:

+ Injects COVID vaccine into patients;

+ Makes patient observations and records unusual conditions or behavior utilizing technical judgement; and

+ Performs other related duties as required.

Typical Qualifications

These are entrance requirements to the examination process and assure neither continuance in the process nor placement on an eligible list.

EDUCATION, TRAINING, and EXPERIENCE

Graduation from an accredited nursing school with a California license pending.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

+ Possession of a current valid license as a Vocational Nurse issued by the State of California.

+ Successful completion of the pharmacology examination within three (3) months of employment.

DESIRED

+ Certifications (BLS, ACLS, PALS)

+ California Driver License

+ Bilingual skills (English/Spanish)

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Thorough knowledge of: and ability to apply a variety of techniques, methods and procedures utilizing required equipment for patient care.

Comprehensive ability to: to establish and maintain effective relations with nursing and medical staff, to follow Agency policies and instructions as given, and the ability to establish and maintain the confidence of patients.

May require working in various departments and a variety of shifts.
